Our Curriculum

Religious Education
Each class has a formal religion lesson for thirty minutes each day.  However, the Christian message is applied to all that happens throughout the school day.  Weekly prayer assemblies are held each Thursday morning, class liturgies are held each Friday, while class and school masses are arranged for special occasions. All children are required to participate in all Religious Education Programs. 

Sacramental Program
Catholic children wishing to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist or Confirmation have the opportunity to do so through involvement in Parish-based Sacramental Programs.  These Programs stress the importance of the family in any decision about when to participate in the preparation for the Sacraments.

These, however, are dependent on how ready you, as a family believe your child is for this Sacrament. Our school Religious Education Program has close links with the preparation phase of the home-based program.

A Parish Sacramental Team, which has school membership, coordinates these programs and works closely with the school to administer the Sacraments. 

Approximate Year levels for receiving the Sacraments are:-

Reconciliation   Year 3 age
Confirmation/Eucharist  Year 4 age

Parents will be advised of details through newsletters and Parish bulletins.

Other Curriculum Areas
St Patrick’s follows the same curriculum guidelines common to all Queensland Primary schools.  Our teachers utilise the Queensland Studies Authority (QSA) Syllabus and Assessment documents which are used to write and implement school based programs in Mathematics, English, Science, the Arts, Study of Society and the Environment, Technology and Physical / Health Education.

Evaluation
Regular reviews of school curriculum programs are carried out both internally (by school staff) and externally (by the Catholic Education Office) to ensure that quality Catholic education is available for our students.

Parent Reporting
At St Patrick’s School we follow the format outlined below:

Prep to Year 7 parents/carers attend an information meeting with their child’s teacher to discuss school/class routines (early Term One).

An individual parent/teacher meeting, at the beginning of Term Three, by request of teacher and at the end of Term Four, at the request of the parents/carers.

Year 2 Diagnostic Net - these tasks are administered in May of each year and parents of children “identified” in this net will be advised as to any remediation required and how this will be accomplished.

Year 3, 5, 7 Tests - each year all Year 3, 5 and 7 children across Australia complete tests on Literacy (Language) and Numeracy (Mathematics).  These tests are set and marked externally and teachers are forwarded results which are then passed on to parents in late November.

Written reports are sent home at the end of each Semester to children in Prep, Years 1 to 7.

Interim report cards are also sent home at the end of the first and third terms. These reports deal with your child’s application to their studies.

You Can Do It! Program
The You Can Do It! (YCDI) Education program is a system for helping all children achieve to the best of their ability and to develop social-emotional-behavioural well-being.  Through a set of unique educational programs, YCDI supports the development of every child's unique potential. It provides all children with the Foundations for Achievement and Social-Emotional-Behavioral Well-Being. 

These foundations are as follows: Confidence, Persistence, Getting Along, Organisation and Resilience.  It also looks at the Habits of the Mind which are automatic tendencies of a person to think, feel, and behave in ways that determine the extent of academic achievement, on the one hand, and social- emotional development on the other.

You Can Do It! Education is a whole school program that runs throughout the entire school year as part of our Health and Physical Education and Religion Key Learning Areas. All classes have a You Can Do IT lesson each week.
